Hungary - General Information
Hungary is a landlocked country in Central Europe with a Prime Minister and an estimated population of 9.897 million people with 98% of the population speaking Hungarian exclusively. The Capital is Budapest and it is bisected by the Danube River. It is famous for its dramatic cityscape with many architectural landmarks making it a great cultural destination for your travels. Goulash originating from the medieval Kingdom of Hungary is a soup or stew of meat and vegetables seasoned with many spices including Hungarian paprika. This soup or stew can include tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, corn, bay leaves, and noodles as a traditional basic base.
As far as sweets, you can find many made of flaky dough, sometimes with chocolate inside and scrumptious tortes. A favorite traditional desert called Makos Nudli is made of poppy seed potato dumplings as the Makos Nudli; a Christmas classic dish is a bread pudding also including the poppy seeds.
Hungary has a mild continental climate and has four very distinct seasons. However, it is said that the best time to visit would be May through September for cool evenings and warm days.
